Impressions of Hopeless Periodontal Teeth

Restoring a patient with severe anterior periodontal disease often requires an immediate denture. Taking an impression in such a case is a delicate procedure if you want to avoid doing the extraction there are then.

If you have grade 3 mobile teeth and are planning on making an immediate denture, but are worried the teeth might come out with the impression, you can splint them with some flowable resin. Ideally something like Opal dam which is colored so makes it easy to remove after the impression.

It is also useful to help close gaps around the dam, for example when you need to do an emergency extirpation on a patient undergoing orthodontic treatment.
