Anthony spent his first few years spread between a few practices with varying experiences and this gave him the well rounded foundation to use as a spring board for his career. Just this story alone is so useful in allowing us to consider and plan our journey in dentistry.

This is just the start of the tips advice and concepts Anthony shares in this podcast.

Dr Anthony Mak is making waves in dentistry and really contributing to the education of the dental community so for that we say thanks and for joining us on this engaging podcast interview.

#42 – CPD and the Path to smile makeovers with Dr Lawrence Neville

How do you achieve the level of dentistry we see all over Instagram and Facebook?

Become a CPD Junkie perhaps, but what we learn in this podcast with Dr Lawrence Neville is that it is about a hunger to learn coupled with mentors and the people and specialists we surround ourselves with

Dr Lawrence Neville has achieved a lot. He is a practice owner, Invisalign key opinion leader, gIDE Dental Implant Master and IAS Academy speaker. His own obsession with CPD and entrepreneurial tendencies led him to create Dental Events Australia, an event company that brings the best speakers the world has to offer to Australia.

This episode is packed with advice and insights, from podcasts to finding a mentor and implants through to aligners and smile makeovers. I really enjoyed recording this with Lawrence, I hope you enjoy listening to it just as much.

#41 – Hygiene is the engine of the practice with Salik Faniad

Great dentistry requires a team. Reception staff, dental assistants and, if you’re lucky enough, hygienists/oral health therapists.

The benefits of a strong hygiene team are clear. Comprehensive care for the gingival health of our patients, another clinician able to identify and discuss treatment and crucially, the dentists time is freed up to focus on restorative and surgical procedures.

We train relatively isolated from our oral health therapist colleagues and graduate without a strong understanding of where they fit into the private practice setting.

With our first hygienist guest, Salik Faniad, on the Dental Head Start Podcast, I hope this to open your eyes to the potential of a hygiene team. I said it multiple times in the interview, Salik’s passion is infectious and I hope this motivates you as much as it motivated me.

#40 – Personal Finance with Dev Raga

We are very fortunate.

As dental professionals, we are lucky to earn a decent income straight out of university. But does that mean we’re good with money, or necessarily going to become financially independent?

COVID-19 has set many precedents, one that we could not have expected was that we could be restricted in our ability to provide for our patients and consequently stop our income in its tracks. An emergency fund, savings and investments for the future and other simple considerations allowed some to coast through this speed bump, and for others to spin out.

This episode we have the pleasure of speaking with Dev Raga from The Dev Raga – Personal Finance Podcast. Dev (his online alias) is a medical doctor who has a passion for personal finance. He runs a fantastic podcast that I strongly encourage you all to look into and learn from which shares foundational knowledge and principles in all things finance.

#39 – Szabolcs Hant Teaches us the Symbiosis of a Dentist and Technician

Dentistry is a beautiful intersection between healthcare, engineering and art. And the art of dentistry is on show more than ever with social media and the focus on visual content.

However much like the popstar has a genius songwriter supporting them, the aesthetic dentist has a master ceramist creating the impeccable outcomes we see all over social media.

Szabi Hant is a master dental technician who works with and supports some of the biggest names in dentistry. His work is some of the best and it is often the seemless natural outcomes he produces that leaves us in disbelief.

So naturally, it was our pleasure to invite him onto the podcast and find out about his journey, his work and his advice on photography, shade selection and preparation.

And if you want to get Szabi’s Photography Cheat Sheet, go to www.cpdjunkie.com.au/photography and get the free pdf.

#37 – Digital Dentistry with Dr Chee Chang

In recent times more successful dentists are standing up and sharing stories of challenge, not just their successes. Whether it’s a failed case and a life story that they have got through, it really has helped many thousands of us dentists realise these great dentists have challanges too, just like us.

Dr Matthew Youssef has achieved a lot in his relatively short career. Matt has extensively trained in implants and surgery and has gone on to create ARIA Dental Education, a training academy where I met Matt. They provide entry level hands on implant training with support from some of the best Australian specialists.

Yet the real value here is in Matts story and achievement, even in the face of adversity.

I hope this inspires you as much as it inspired me. Enjoy.

#36 – Business Outside of Dentistry with Matthew Youssef

#35 – Dental students to Graduates with Dr Rohan Krishnan

You’ve heard me say it before:

Helping Dental Students Become Great Dentists

This is our motto and our mission. So, it makes perfect sense to have Dr Rohan Krishnan on the podcast to share his views, experience and vision with the Dental Head Start community.

Dr Krishnan has spent many years contributing to ADA NSW, initially on and then as chair of the Recent Graduate Committee and more recently as a Board Director. He is also on the board of Filling The Gap and runs his own private practice.

Impressive, yet my interest was peaked when he shared his new project…
