Welcome to What I Wish I Knew by Dental Head Start. This is a podcast where we learn from people that have been there, made the mistakes, learnt the lessons and have developed into the accomplished dental professionals they are today.
It’s your weekly mentoring session.
“Draw inspiration from others, but compete with yourself”
Dr Bharat Agrawal
I really loved this comment from Bharat.
I know when we graduate, and really at any point in our careers we can find ourselves looking to our peers as the yardstick for the amount and quality of dentistry we feel we should be doing. Whilst it is great to draw inspiration and standards to strive for from external sources, constant comparison and competition with others will only end up being exhausting and may steal some of the joy from your dentistry.
Today on the podcast Bharat reveals how he remembers knowing this feeling too well, but lends some excellent advice and perspective on how we can find and stick to our own path of growth in dentistry.
Key Tips to Takeaway for Tomorrow:
- Draw inspiration from others, but compete with yourself.
- Run your own race – don’t feel pressured to do more just because others are.
- Critically evaluating your own work – take photos.
- You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with -Find a good group of people around you to give you feedback.
